If your truck’s engine has a serious mechanical problem, which cannot be repaired without spending lots of money, there is no reason why you should send the vehicle to the scrapheap. Providing everything else is in good condition, you can prolong the lifespan of your truck by simply replacing the engine.
However, herein lies another problem. The cost of buying a new powertrain can be astronomical, especially if you approach your truck’s manufacturer directly. Thankfully, used engines from M. W. Truck Parts are much more affordable and come with history details as well as being tested, giving you peace of mind over on-going reliability.
But you will still need to choose the right engine for your vehicle, otherwise it might not work or fail to perform. Here’s what to look for:
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
If you have documentation about your truck, such as the logbook or MOT certificate, look for the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). This is a unique code specific to your vehicle, which comprises of 17 characters (digits and capital letters).
The VIN can also be found by looking at the dashboard on the driver’s side of the vehicle or by opening the driver’s side door and looking at the doorpost.
Engine code
Once you know your VIN, identifying the engine code is incredibly straightforward. Although you can root around your engine bay for a code, each and every VIN contains this information anyway.
A VIN can tell you the make and origin, features of the vehicle, the manufacturing plant, the production number, the model year, and the engine with which your vehicle was fitted.
What to do with your VIN and engine code
There are several websites that provide VIN checking services. However, they are typically used by everyday motorists and not truck or plant owners. Therefore, you may need to contact your truck manufacturer or one of our members of staff at M. W. Truck Parts.
Even if you don’t have a VIN or engine code, we will still be able to provide help and advice about what engine your truck requires. Engine manufacturers we stock include Mercedes, Scania, MAN, DAF, IVECO, Volvo, Cummins, and more.
